Inspiration

At Boston University, we noticed something: many students are curious about research — they want to explore, create, and make an impact — but they don’t know where to start. Opportunities often feel hidden behind walls of information, unclear requirements, or scattered resources. At the same time, professors are looking for passionate students who align with their projects but struggle to find them efficiently.

We wanted to bridge that gap — to turn curiosity into action.

That’s why we built Research Dashboard, a platform that helps students discover their research style, connect with mentors, and explore real projects around BU. It’s not just a tool; it’s a launchpad for discovery — helping every student take the first confident step toward becoming a researcher.

What it does

RhettSearch helps to efficiently seek research opportunities. Tailored through RSTI [research type indicator], RhettSearch personalizes the research path for ambitious students from beginners to experts.

How we built it

We implemented our idea using python (server, scraper) and HTML, CSS, Javascript, and json with LLMs.

Challenges we ran into

Git version conflict when merging. Operation system conflict.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Making research finding more engaging using refined data visualization charts, interactive UI components, and personalized and accessible pages.

Research type indicator test can also render beginners a quick understanding of their research personalities and customized recommondations.

What we learned

collaborating/developing on Github, HTML, Javascript, CSS, and python.

What's next for RhettSearch

An optimized RSTI, and expand the data visualization charts and project display and joining, also upgrade Rhett chat function.
