Inspiration

The performance this weekend was coming up fast, and we were staring into our closets with that all-too-familiar feeling: nothing to wear. Buying new outfits for a one-time event felt wasteful and expensive—so we wondered, what if we could just borrow or trade with someone nearby? That sparked the idea for an app that makes it easy to exchange clothes and accessories, helping people dress for the moment without fueling fast fashion.

What it does

With ReWear, users can log in and upload photos of clothing items or accessories they’re open to trading. From there, they can head to the Discover page, where a swipe-based interface—just like Tinder—lets them browse items from others nearby. Swipe right on something you’d love to trade for, and if that user also swipes right on your item, it’s a match. Once matched, you can message each other directly through the app to coordinate the trade—making it easy, fast, and fun to refresh your wardrobe sustainably.

How we built it

We began by creating a Google survey to gather public feedback on the concept and identify any potential concerns. The responses showed strong interest in clothing trades, especially within the same city—though a few were open to national or even global exchanges. The most common concerns were related to trust and avoiding scams. With these insights in mind, we moved on to designing the app’s prototype in Figma, focusing on features that prioritize safety and user confidence. Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was working under a tight timeline due to real-life commitments, which limited how much we could build. We also aimed to incorporate more dynamic animations to bring the swipe interaction to life, but we ran into a learning curve and weren’t able to fully implement the effects we envisioned.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Considering the time limitations, we have completed some of the main pages and filled out a submission.

What's next for ReWear.

After the Designathon, we’re excited to continue developing Rewear by completing our prototypes and potentially building a working version of the app. We plan to explore more advanced animation techniques in Figma to enhance future design projects. For the app itself, we aim to add key features like customer support, chat functionality, a user rating system, and more—ensuring a smoother, safer, and more engaging trading experience.
