Inspiration
With exams coming up it's really hard to find good material with which to revise.
What it does
It enables a student to upload an image of their textbook (or pdf) to our system. It then produces a set of A level standard questions and generates model answers which are kept on the server. The user can submit their full-text answers to the questions and the system will then display percentage marks and the previously generated model answers.
How we built it
Using PyCharm, OCR webservice API and the OpenAI API.
Challenges we ran into
Because we are only 16, we were unable to access the resources we would have liked to from those provided by the hackathon as they require a minimum age of 18. Also, budget was £0 so we had to use free trials, which limited amount of testing we could do. OCR stopped responding to our requests at the very end. Additionally, all the technologies we used (besides the languages) were new to us, so they slowed us down a lot.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to work with multiple API-s and complex data structures.
What we learned
You always need more time and this is our first hackathon so now we know.
What's next for Revision Guru
User testing, bug fixing, vocabulary implementation, user testing and deploy on school network.
