The inspiration
College can be a hard time for students financially, especially since most college-students work in the service sector, which is greatly suffering due to COVID-19. We believed the best way for a student to make additional income would be to do great in their education. If fact, a student would do so great that they would be able to charge other students to assist in courses in which they are excelling at.
What it does
Rethinq provides an online platform for students who excel in class and students who might struggle with classes to connect in a smart and efficient way. This allows students to make an income, while at the same time focusing on their classes and grades.
How I built it
We created a full-stack web application, using Java and Spring for the back-end, and React and Javascript in the front-end. We split up main features to each member of the team. Details on features can be found here: https://trello.com/b/q9StpWE2/rethinq
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges was coordinating features and building different parts of the app strategically, so one person wouldn't be blocked by another teammate if they're features were intertwined somehow.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We were able to get the app to a proof of concept phase. While, it is not complete. I do think the point where it is at now conveys the idea of what we want to accomplish out of it.
What I learned
For some team members, it was their first time using React and was a great learning experience, other team members learned a lot about project management and making sure the team keeps moving forward in the most efficient way.
What's next for rethinq
Our team will continue to work on rethinq on our own time and hopefully get it to a clean and presentable state.
