Our Journey to Build a Resume Reader AI Website

Inspiration

We were inspired to build a resume reader AI website after experiencing frustration during our own job searches. Despite having the necessary qualifications for a job, we often got rejected during the screening round for arbitrary reasons like lacking the right verbs. We realized that many others might also be facing the same challenges and we wanted to help.

Learning and Research

To start our project, we did extensive research on the different AI APIs available for resume parsing and analysis. We explored options like OpenAI, GPT4All, and Cohere, among others, to determine which one would work best for our website. We learned about the advantages and disadvantages of each API and ultimately decided to use Cohere due to its ease of use and accuracy.

Building the Website

We began building the website by first creating a front-end interface that allowed users to easily upload their resumes. Next, we integrated the Cohere API and openAI API into the back-end of the website. The API allowed us to analyze the resumes and provide users with feedback on areas that needed improvement, such as missing keywords (like strong action verbs) or formatting issues.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges we faced during the project was determining the optimal configuration for the Cohere API. We had to experiment with different parameters to ensure that the feedback provided to users was accurate and useful. Additionally, we had to find ways to present the feedback in a clear and understandable way to users, without overwhelming them with too much information.

Conclusion

Overall, our journey to build a resume reader AI website was a challenging and rewarding experience. We learned a lot about different AI APIs and their capabilities, as well as the importance of presenting information in a clear and understandable way. We are excited about the potential impact that our website can have on job seekers and look forward to continuing to improve and refine it in the future.
