Inspiration
nake bites and dangerous reptile encounters are a serious issue, especially in rural areas where medical help is not immediately accessible. Many victims are unable to identify the species that attacked them, which leads to delays in proper treatment. We were inspired to build a solution that can instantly identify reptiles and provide life-saving guidance using AI, making critical information accessible to everyone.
What it does
ReptiScan is an AI-powered application that helps users identify reptiles from images or videos in real-time.
📸 Upload or capture a reptile image/video 🤖 AI analyzes and predicts the species ⚠️ Indicates whether it is venomous or not 🚑 Emergency mode provides first-aid steps 📍 Suggests nearby medical help (concept/demo) 🗣️ Voice guidance for accessibility
It aims to reduce response time during emergencies and potentially save lives.
How we built it
Frontend: Simple web interface using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript / React AI Integration: Image recognition using pre-trained models / mock dataset Logic Layer: Custom logic for prediction display and emergency workflow UI/UX: Designed for quick interaction during high-stress situations
Challenges we ran into
🧠 Training an accurate reptile detection model within limited time 📊 Lack of high-quality, labeled reptile datasets 🌐 Handling real-time predictions efficiently 🚑 Designing an interface usable in emergency situations 📱 Making the experience simple for non-technical users
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Designed an intuitive emergency response system Addressed a real-world, life-threatening problem
What we learned
Working under time pressure and prioritizing features
What's next for ReptiScan
Integrate real-time GPS for nearby hospitals Expand database to include more reptiles globally Multi-language and voice assistant support Partner with healthcare organizations for real-world deployment
