Our team came up with a way to reduce food waste. We propose to create a federal program to distribute compost bins to residents. Our team programmed a website that provides information on food waste and our designs for our compost bin. I was the programmer and engineer. I programed our website with HTML 5, CSS, and PHP. Our website has a home, about, services, gallery, contact, and a login page. We designed the outside of the bin with the material polystyrene. We chose this material because it's sturdy and inexpensive. For the material used inside our compost bin, we used bronze. We used bronze because of its antimicrobial properties. Our compost bin has a low-speed high torque waste shredder to break down the scraps into compost. We also used heat to reduce the food scraps due to the fact that temperature is a key factor in creating compost. Our team decided to use a small solar panel to power the waste shredder. We designed our bins to be user-friendly. We propose for a compost truck to pick up the compost every 3 weeks.
