Inspiration
Inspiration for our project came from family members, and those suffering from the symptoms of dementia. It is painful, confusing, and heartbreaking for both the patient and the family members/close friends of the patient, when the patient loses memories about them. We want to be part of the help for this incurable ailment.
What it does
Our proposed application would be a place where patients afflicted by dementia symptoms could store audio files and pictures about primary people such as family members or close friends, about who they are and how they are related to them. That way when they get confused about those around them they can listen back to their own voice tell them who they are. This would help because hearing your own voice tell you who someone is in private is less embarrassing for the patient, and also can help calm them down if they are anxious.
How we built it
Since we are competing in the idea portion of the hackathon, we only made a mock up of what our app could look like in Figma and a presentation in Google slides. For the mock up of the app we choose to use simple layout, buttons, and colors to make it as easily technologically accessible for the patients, especially because a majority of the people afflicted with dementia are the elderly. We also choose to have a widget for the app go on the lock screen so if the patient is confused or forgets about the app they can easily navigate to it.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge that we ran into was figuring out how the patient would easily access the app. As the target group that we are dealing with will need it to be as easily navigable as possible. To help with this problem we decided to add a widget to the lock screen of the phone.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the mock up of the app, as it is one of the first app mock ups that we have ever made, and it is paving the way for a lot of room to grow in our user interface adventures.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to use Figma. Also, through our research on dementia we learned a lot more about what patients face, the different types, and the different symptoms of the affliction.
What's next for Remem-Moi
The next thing for Remem-Moi would probably be to try and code the application. It would definitely need a revamp to a better user interface, and we would need to do a lot more research on the audio files and image uploading component.
