Inspiration

We were inspired by the growing issue of improper recycling and wanted to create an AI-powered tool that helps people identify recyclable materials instantly.

What it does

Recyclify uses real-time object detection and geolocation to identify items through your camera and show nearby recycling or trash disposal sites on an interactive map.

How we built it

We built Recyclify using React, TensorFlow.js, and Leaflet for the map, integrating a custom machine learning model for detection and APIs for live location-based recycling data.

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges with browser geolocation permissions, API rate limits, and balancing model performance with smooth real-time detection in the browser.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating a fast, privacy-friendly recycling assistant that runs entirely in the browser and visually guides users toward eco-friendly disposal.

What we learned

We learned how to combine machine learning with frontend frameworks and geospatial APIs to create meaningful, sustainable technology experiences.

What's next for Recyclify

Next, we plan to add user recycling stats, community leaderboards, and AI-powered education features to encourage long-term sustainable habits.
