Inspiration
Many are aware of the importance of recycling, but some people still don't know how to properly recycle, greatly reducing its effectiveness. This inspired us to create a game that can help teach people how to organize their waste and to ensure that they recycle correctly and effectively.
What it does
Recycle Me Please! is a game in which the player has to sort different types of waste into different bins, and gain the most points possible in 30 seconds.
How we built it
We used Python with the Turtle module to create the game.
Challenges we ran into
Turtle was quite challenging to use for creating this game as it was tedious and required more lines of code as opposed to a no GUI code, since Turtle uses graphics. With our limited coding background, we decided to use Turtle as a way of creating the graphics of our game, which is the only module we've used before and it is already built into Python.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of our game, especially the visual creations that we were able to design despite our lack of experience. Since we didn't import images, we made our own, which took more effort, but was very fun and rewarding when we saw our game come together.
What we learned
In researching for this project, we learned more about proper recycling. We also learned more about Turtle, and experienced its functionality and its limitations as well as our own limitations in Python and coding in general. Now we have a better idea of what we want and need to learn going forward.
What's next for Recycle Me Please!
When we learn how to code using other languages, programs, and modules, we may re-create the game in which we will incorporate some features that we didn't now due to limited time and experience, as well as new features for better graphics, functionality, and usefulness. After further development, we believe it can eventually become a mainstream game, which would greatly help in education about recycling, therefore helping our earth and reducing our environmental footprint.
