Inspiration
The bus schedule is far from accurate at peak hours due to traffic, especially 7:30 AM - 8:00 AM or 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM. Students might be late for classes, tests, interviews, appointments, etc. The cost might be an opportunity to a dream job.
What it does
Our REAL schedule intelligently predicts the actual arrival time of the current buses.
How we built it
We request buses' locations from the Transportation Services, transform them to longitudes and latitudes, and run queries on Google Maps' server, and display estimated time these buses arrive at the terminal.
Challenges we ran into
We were not familiar with xml nor database and learned from the ground. We had a hard time transforming State Plane Coordinates to longitudes/latitudes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It helps customers to make smart decisions.
What we learned
We learned how to make a website providing services and how to deal with GIS.
What's next for Real Schedule
If we could have access to the historical data from the Transportation Services, our site might predict the arrival time with better precision, even better, it could predict whether the bus will be full upon arriving at your location.
