Inspiration
We wanted to make it easier for students to make the difficult decision on whether to purchase textbooks for their classes
What it does
Provides a platform for students to find information on the textbooks they need and whether it is recommended to purchase them.
How we built it
Using a SQL files as our database, we created functions that could interact with this database to pull reviews and display information about specific textbooks. We then created a frontend UI for users to see reviews based on entries in the database.
Challenges we ran into
We originally had many ideas and features we wanted to implement but we made the mistake of trying to implement too many features and had to cut out some of the features we originally intended to have due to limited time constraints. Initially we also wanted to have a feature that takes users to possible purchase locations but could not as we ran out of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of UI since we went through a hassle to make the UI look pretty and be functional with back end code.
What we learned
We learned how to connect frontend and backend frameworks and how they can interact with each other. In addition, we also learned the inner working of SQL files and how the interact with queries.
What's next for Rate My Textbook
We want to eventually implement the features we are missing and make the UI more vibrant and smoother.
