RantBot
Inspiration
The inspiration for RantBot came from the growing concerns around mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has caused a number of problems that have taken a toll on many people’s mental health, such as financial burdens, health concerns, and remote environments. During these times, many people have lost access to important mental health services such as therapy or group sessions, so we wanted to create something that could act as a replacement.
What it does
RantBot is an interactive AI that serves to improve the mental health of users that are seeking help. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, many have been in need of support or help in many shapes and forms. RantBot acts as a personal diary that offers helpful feedback and provides resources that can be used to help those in need.
How we built it
We built Rantbot using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We created the website using HTML and CSS, and used Javascript to create the interactive chatting feature.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into were getting the program to recognize words that highlighted the user's emotions. Without these words, we were unable to redirect them to the right page.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One accomplishment that we're definitely proud of is the idea itself! Our project definitely has the potential to be used in the real world and it can be used to help others in need. Even though it is a very basic model and at a preliminary stage, the idea itself with enough fine-tuning can have a positive impact! Another thing that we're proud of is our teamwork and cooperation. We were able to get this done pretty quickly and all of us contributed to make sure that we were working as a fully functional team.
What we learned
Something that we learned from this project was how to work more efficiently together as a team and how to stay organized. Additionally, we gained more insight on the ideation process, and how to identify problems in society that we can tackle, as well as possible solutions to combat such problems. Overall, we learned more about how hackathons work, and are definitely more equipped for future hackathons!
What's next for Rantbot
The future of RantBot is a bright one. RantBot can be applied in the future to serve as a functional tool that people can rely on for emotional and mental support. Additionally, RantBot can be a convenient tool for people that want quick comfort and would like information regarding their problems, and it could be better once we develop our skills more and become more comfortable in our abilities in the future.
