Inspiration
For us, local businesses mean a lot, Hassan has his own clothing store. Which made us pick this project and work on it in order to support small local businesses
What it does
It looks for local vendors within a postal code and a radius in Canada provided by the user and shows a list of said vendors for them to know and hopefully support
How we built it
We built a website with HTML CSS and JavaScript for the front end of the website. We also used Flask and Python for the back end, where we used the google places API to get the information for the local vendors
Challenges we ran into
Basically, the whole project was a challenge, except the front end since Hassan had already worked on websites before. We had to learn how to use Flask in order to bring it all together, we had to read a lot about API’s because it was our first time using them and most notably, we faced a huge challenge as to what to do with the JSON file the Google API provided us from the request.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I think the whole project we are really proud of, both the front end and back end worked out which for the first time and the limited time we had, made us proud
What we learned
We learned about APIs, Front end development, and back-end development. How to work in a team, how to use GitHub for projects this big compared to our other projects
What's next for Raidboss Food
Well, unfortunately, we didn’t finish the project. So what is next is to finish it, filter out some results from the JSON file, and of course make it look nicer than it looks right now
