Inspiration
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global crisis, affecting millions of lives worldwide. Each year, AMR contributes to over a million deaths, with projections suggesting that number could rise dramatically in the coming decades. Our goal was to bring awareness to this pressing issue by developing a solution that not only accelerates diagnosis but also equips healthcare providers with the tools needed to take immediate, life-saving action against AMR.
What it does
QuantX dramatically reduces infection diagnosis times from weeks to hours using a mobile app and AI analysis. It guides clinical users to capture sample images, automatically processes them to detect bacterial growth, calculates resistance profiles, and generates easy-to-read results for doctors to act quickly.
How we built it
We designed a full end-to-end workflow in Figma, including mobile and dashboard interfaces. The platform uses device calibration to adapt to different lighting conditions, CV models for image analysis, and smart mapping for resistance tracking. We focused on a clean, clinical-grade experience optimized for mobile use.
Challenges we ran into
"One of our major challenges was striking the right balance between precision and simplicity. We had to create a solution that delivered accurate results while still being easy for users to navigate. It was essential that the process didn’t overwhelm them, especially given the complexity of the data being handled. We focused on making the user interface as intuitive as possible, allowing for both automation and manual control when necessary. The goal was to ensure that each step felt seamless and user-friendly, without compromising the accuracy and reliability required for the task at hand."
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building a detailed, user-centered, real-world-ready platform in just a short time.
Designing a workflow that could realistically fit into clinics without expensive hardware.
Creating a solution that could save lives by dramatically speeding up critical diagnostics.
What we learned
How critical usability is in clinical settings — even small friction points can break trust.
The importance of building flexible systems that can adapt to different environments and users.
How impactful it can be to combine biotech, AI, and simple UX to solve global problems.
What's next for Quantx
Expand the platform to support diagnostics for blood infections, fungal pathogens, and other urgent care needs.
Pilot partnerships with clinics and research labs to validate real-world performance.
Build deeper analytics to track AMR trends across regions globally.
Incorporate new AI models to predict emerging resistance patterns before they become critical.
