Inspiration
On February 6, 2023, Turkey and Syria experienced one of the worst earthquakes of the century, with a magnitude of 7.8, resulting in 39,106 deaths and many more injured. The two aftershock earthquakes, resulted in 9,000 more deaths.
What it does
Our group decided to make QuakeAlert, an earthquake detection web application that can inform people within the affected radius of an earthquake so they can reach safety. QuakeAlert uses an Earthquake Detection API to check if the user is in the affected radius of a major earthquake and prompts them to safety. It will also provide users with the feature to contact emergency services and will give them all the medical centers within a 5 mile radius in case they need treatment.
How we built it
We built our website using the Flask web app library, Python, HTML, and CSS. Additionally, we utilized the Google Maps API to find hospitals near the user to provide disaster relief support.
