Inspiration
Our website takes its name from the Greek priestess of health Pythia, symbolizing guidance and clarity, much like our project’s mission which is to guide users in proper waste disposal. It also sounds to Python, the programming language we used, emphasizing a modern solution to environmental challenges.
What it does
Pythia was supposed to be a chatbot that helps users categorize waste into compost, recyclables, or landfill. Using OpenAI’s API, it processes the user's prompts or images to identify the correct category and responds with short terms, such as “This goes to the recycle bin.”
How we built it
Backend: Python Flask powering the backend + Gumloop structure webhook. Frontend: JavaScript and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing the API. Learning new concepts in a span of a day. Integrating Flask, OpenAI, and Gumloop into one cohesive system. Meeting deadlines.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a project with a sustainability impact. Designing a user friendly interface.
What we learned
We learned how to use Gumloop. How to develop a basic frontend react app and backend flask environment. How to implement GenAi open API's into a project.
What's next for Pythia
We hope to develop Pythia in a way that actually supports sustainability amongst people. We want AI to be used for good!
