Inspiration

A "mindful minute" is a common practice in classrooms, offices, and at any time when people need to clear their minds. They are usually performed by being "present" while listening to a 1 minute video or audio. However, the search for the mindful minute often is very difficult.

I realized that in many classes or activities, when doing "mindful minutes," it actually took longer to find the activity/video/website/audio than to do the actual minute. In addition, many sources have unnecessary visuals or audio, which distracts from the core of a mindful minute.

What it does

Pure Place is a website you keep in your bookmarks bar. When you need a mindful minute, the timer is one step away.

As soon as you open the website, the 1 minute timer begins, and you can begin to focus.

In addition, the timer does not show progress or have any distractions (noise, video). There are no stressful progress bars. This allows the user to be completely focused on the mindful minute as opposed to the content.

How we built it

I built Pure Place using HTML, CSS, and JS.

Challenges we ran into

Certain aspects of the styling would not cooperate, leading to unnecessary slowdowns.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud to have made a product that I believe can eliminate many headaches in the quest for a mindful minute.

What we learned

In order to determine what colors to use, I did research on the most calming colors.

What's next for Pure Place

The goal of the app is to be simple, meaning few features could be added. However, I could add mobile support so that the UI works on mobile as well.
