The recording was speed up in order to fit <2 minutes, that is why our voices are high pitched.
Inspiration
The covid pandemic has tested us all beyond our limits. During this time, one of our team members had trouble finding medical care remedies and local specialists for their new Golden doodle. Upon bringing up this problem we decided to make PupCare.
Use
PupCare entails owners to a medical portfolio for their furry friends in which they can access a dog breed info library, a symptoms checker which identifies a disease from user listed symptoms, live specialized PupCare messaging support, and access to the PupCare live community forum in which pup care users can ask and answer questions.
How we built it
We built this website with the programming languages of Python, Html, CSS, and JavaScript. We also used packages such as bootstrap, jQuery and we also used Api's to get information about dog breeds. We used the Django Framework in order to create the website and for the client side we created html files and used CSS and bootstrap to make it look better. We also used template inheritance and template tagging alongside Django variables.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many problems, for example when we were trying to integrate different variables in our models.py and forms.py we received a database issue where the SQL would automatically assign the rows as non-nullable values. We had to revert back to an old version of our code using GitHub and had to recode from that point.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One accomplishment that we are proud of is creating a website that fully functions at our first/second hackathon ever. All of our members have have been to at most one hackathon and we were able to create an app with a community forum and a messaging service.
What we learned
On the Coding Front we learned about how to integrate Api's and we also learned how to properly embed code into our Html. We also realized how our models work in django because of the debugging that we had to do. On the Project Front we learned that we should have a fully developed gameplan and a full idea on what the website should include. We also learned that it is important to have good communication with your group and make sure that you are always on task.
What's next for PupCare
In the future we hope to try and improve the website. We want to use it as a way to teach ourselves more about coding and about working with GitHub. If we can develop the website more we could also try to launch the website in order to either teach ourselves about deployment or to actually launch it because we believe that some people may need it.
