Inspiration
Over the last two years, statistical data reveals a surge in job opportunities and hiring rates for women and other minority genders in the tech sector. However, this upward trajectory lacks consistency, and the pronounced employment gap between men versus women and the LGBTQ community still persists predominantly. The inspiration behind creating a job portal for women and the LGBTQ+ community stems from our commitment to addressing inequality, promoting diversity and inclusion by empowering individuals economically and driving broader social change towards a more equitable workforce.
What it does
The We For All is a centralized platform that empowers job posters to promote inclusive opportunities by posting job openings on the portal. It is specifically designed to cater to the needs of women and LGBTQ+ individuals, offering tailored job listings based on their matched skillsets. It allows users to securely sign up on the website and then lets the authentic users easily explore the various job listings by providing filters and an enriched UI. It is also meant to provide them with some tips for resume building before applying for the job listing.
How we built it
We built the job portal using a combination of frontend technologies like React.js for the user interface, backed by a Node.js and Express.js server for handling backend functionalities. MongoDB Atlas was used to host our database, ensuring secure and scalable data management. Additionally we plan on utilizing, the Open AI API to provide recommendations and tips for the resume based on the prompts mentioned in the job postings. We also plan to integrate the Google Location API to identify the location of applicants and suggest job listings based on their location.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we faced was ensuring the inclusivity and accessibility of our platform design and features, as well as integrating external APIs for enhanced functionality while maintaining data privacy and security. Additionally, learning React and MongoDB in a short period of time presented its own set of challenges, as did debugging errors along the way.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have developed a user-friendly and inclusive job portal that embodies our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Throughout the development process, we embraced the challenge of learning new skills like React and MongoDB, demonstrating our dedication to personal and professional growth.
What we learned
We learned about hosting our database on MongoDB Atlas, apart from that we learnt a ton of things about Express and Node
What's next for Project
The future scope of our project is to build the dashboard for admin, where admin can add new job postings. Add frontend for job history of users where they can track their application. We also aim at providing a feature to integrate the Google Location API to identify the location of applicants and suggest job listings based on their location.
