Inspiration
Our project was inspired by the need to make programming documentation more accessible and interactive. We wanted to create a system that allows users to query a wide range of programming frameworks and technologies, providing relevant documentation in real-time. This system helps developers quickly find solutions to their problems without needing to navigate multiple documentation sites.
What it does
Our project is a documentation assistant that allows users to query different programming frameworks (such as Angular, Django, ReactJS, Firebase, etc.) and get contextually relevant information in response. By leveraging a combination of Snowflake database and Mistral AI, the system searches through framework documentation and provides answers based on user queries. The assistant also allows filtering by framework, making it more customized and efficient.
How we built it
We used a combination of technologies to build the system:
Snowflake: We utilized Snowflake to store and manage documentation data for various frameworks. This allows for easy querying and retrieval of relevant information based on user input.
Mistral: Mistral AI was integrated to generate human-like answers to user queries by analyzing the fetched documentation data.
Streamlit: We used Streamlit for the front end, creating a clean and intuitive interface for users to interact with the documentation assistant.
Environment Variables: We secured sensitive information like API keys using environment variables managed with the python-dotenv package. The system integrates all these components to provide a seamless user experience, from querying documentation to receiving AI-generated answers.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we encountered include:
Database Querying: The need to dynamically query multiple framework documentation tables based on user input was tricky. We had to build an efficient query mechanism that searched across different tables based on detected frameworks.
Data Management: Handling a large amount of documentation data from various frameworks and ensuring that it’s properly indexed and easy to search was a complex task.
AI Integration: Ensuring that Mistral AI could process and respond accurately based on the documentation context was challenging, especially when it came to formatting the data appropriately for context generation.
Handling Multiple Frameworks: The complexity of handling multiple frameworks with different terminologies and aliases in the search queries was another hurdle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Real-Time Documentation Retrieval: We successfully built a system that can query live documentation from multiple frameworks in real-time and return accurate results to the user.
AI-Powered Answer Generation: The integration of Mistral AI to generate answers based on the documentation context is a feature we’re particularly proud of. This allows for personalized, dynamic responses that feel natural and relevant.
Scalable Framework Integration: Our framework detection and querying system can scale as new frameworks and documentation are added, making it adaptable for future growth.
User-Friendly Interface: The Streamlit interface we built is easy to use and intuitive, making it accessible for both novice and experienced developers.
What we learned
We learned a lot about integrating multiple technologies into a cohesive project. Some key takeaways include:
The importance of data structuring and indexing when working with large documentation sets to ensure fast and efficient retrieval.
How to leverage machine learning models (like Mistral) for context-based response generation. The complexities of querying across multiple databases dynamically and efficiently.
How environment management (with python-dotenv) plays a crucial role in keeping sensitive information secure.
What's next for project
Expand Framework Coverage: We plan to add more frameworks and documentation sources, allowing the assistant to support a broader range of technologies.
Improve AI Accuracy: We want to refine the AI model’s ability to generate more accurate and context-aware responses based on the queried documentation.
User Customization: Adding features for user-specific preferences, such as saving favorite frameworks or documentation snippets, could enhance the experience.
Performance Optimization: As the system scales, we will work on optimizing the querying and AI response generation to ensure quick, seamless interactions even with a larger database.
