Inspiration
Clue was our main inspiration, but we were also inspired by top-down games and pixel art. We wanted to create a puzzling game that would be an interesting combination of creativity, speed skills, and ingenuity for the two players.
What it does
This is a turn-based, two-player game, where one player is the detective and the other is the ghost. As the detective, your job is to uncover clues in pursuit of the ghastly truth, while piecing apart mysterious clues from the ghost. As the ghost, your job is to deliver those clues, while solving arcane word searches to expand your vocabulary (which, as we all know, is a constant struggle for ghosts).
How we built it
We built it in Unity and C, and incorporated various pixel art assets from the Internet. Additionally, we shed a lot of tears over compilation errors with vague error messages, so that fueled us as well.
Challenges we ran into
- Unity version control was difficult to work with
- Over-ambitious starting idea
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Getting the core game logic/visuals done!
- Learning more about Unity/game dev
- Adhering to the theme
What we learned
- Pay more attention to scope of project
- How to repurpose visual/audio assets online effectively
What's next for Wurder Mystery
- Pride for what we already accomplished
- Perhaps expand rooms, items, and build a larger and richer story
