Inspiration

The current cost of living crisis and the rising food prices have made it difficult for households to afford necessities and essential items. PricePeek was born out of the want to help provide households with the ability to compare prices of different products in shops in their vicinity to find the best deals and save money.

What it does

Once a consumer enters the landing page, they'll be able to either sign up or log in. Once logged in, users can search for items, which will be presented in either a list format or a map, with the items ranked from cheapest to most expensive. Users will also be able to filter the products by different categories, such as dairy or gluten-free produce.

How we built it

We split into two subteams, one working on the design and front-end of the web app, the other on the back-end. Whilst some of us were designing the website, the others were web scrapping to find data on different produce from different stores. Once both the front-end and back-end were finished, we worked on integrating them and hosting the web app.

Challenges we ran into

Most of us were working with either unfamiliar frameworks or unfamiliar methods; thus, most of our challenges came from a steep learning curve. However, by supporting each other and working through each issue step-by-step, we were able to overcome the challenge.
