My Journey Creating PreHealthX - Empowering Patients with Accurate Medical Information
Inspiration
As someone who lost their mother due to a lack of understanding of medical information, when I saw the problem statement, I was inspired to create a platform that would provide accurate and easily understandable medical information. Many people face the challenge of understanding medical information, and I wanted to help solve this problem.
What it does
PreHealthX is a comprehensive web-based medical information sheet that provides accurate and up-to-date medical information to patients, healthcare professionals, and caregivers. The platform will be a one-stop for all things medical-related. We want to connect it with doctors, and health givers, and integrate other technologies, to make it contain all information about health care. I also added a chat feature that not only interprets medical information but also, answers any question you might have. Our platform is user-friendly, secure, and easy to navigate, ensuring the safety and well-being of our users.
How I built it
Using my knowledge of web development, I built PreHealthX from scratch. I created the website using React in VScode and integrated APIs like Open AI, NewsAPI, and SpeechRecognition, to ensure that our medical information was always accurate and up-to-date. Hosting and database management were done through Firebase, which made the process simple and efficient.
Challenges I ran into
As a solo developer, I faced several challenges while building PreHealthX. The design was particularly challenging for me as I typically work with a team member that handles this aspect of development. However, I was able to learn and implement my design ideas. Balancing my time between building the platform and attending classes was also a challenge, but I persevered and was able to complete the project. Additionally, I had limited knowledge of APIs I can use for this project. Learning the APIs and using them was taking some time and I did not have a lot of time to implement every idea I had.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
I am proud of building a functional and user-friendly platform that can help people understand medical information. It was a challenge, but I am happy that I was able to complete it on my own.
What we learned
Working on this project alone, I learned a lot about website development using React in VScode, Firebase for hosting and database management, and API integration. Despite not having a team, I was able to develop a user-friendly and secure platform that provides accurate and up-to-date medical information. I also learned a lot about time and project management. There is a lot about building a platform and I am glad I could do most of that.
What's next for PreHealthx
The next step for PreHealthX is to continue improving and expanding the platform. My idea was not well implemented in that I could not implement file analysis and summary so I will work on that aspect. I plan to add more features and information to make it even more useful for patients, healthcare professionals, and caregivers.
