Inspiration

We noticed that our friends groups were bad at decision making. After playing an interesting board game which put an interesting spin on democracy, we decided that a game can be a great way to decide squabbles over where to eat or what to do.

What it does

This app gameifies the decision-making processes friend groups often face such as where to eat or what to do. Each person is given 100 power points per day to spend on elections to decide on something collectively. Proposing an option costs 20 power and others can support your options at a cost of 10 power each. The option with the most power at the end of 60 seconds wins. If you don't care about what option is chosen, save your power to have a greater say over where dessert will be, or for something else some other day. This fun way of decision-making gives those with a softer voice an opportunity to be heard.

How we built it

We used react-native to develop the client phone app and django to develop the server.

Challenges we ran into

One of our developers lost their internet connection for the entire weekend and was unable to assist in development.

Learning React Native and getting it to connect with the server was challenging, but ultimately overcome.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of learning React Native and strengthening my skills in React. Also, I'm very proud of my ability to work well under time constraints as the second developer on the team was unavailable.

What we learned

How to make an app in React Native and how to connect it to a web api.

What's next for Power

Fixing overlooked security concerns, fleshing out the app, taking it from an MVP to a real viable app.
