PomoDoro Cat Timer :)

In our chrome extension, we set up a 25 minute timer in which our cat mascot, Pomo, works with you! Encouraging you to study harder. If you pause the timer, Pomo will play while you take your break!

Inspiration

The Pomodoro method is a way of studying wherein the workday is broken up into 25 minutes separated by 5 minutes in between. These intervals are called Pomodoros.

What it does

Our extension, PomoDoro Cat TImer, is a 25 minute timer in which our mascot, Pomo, studies and takes break with you.

When you start the timer, Pomo works away on his laptop while you work. If you pause, Pomo can be seen playing with a ball of yarn while you rest.

How we built it

We used JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and chrome extension API to implement our idea.

We communicated through and shared files through discord and Github.

VsCode and jsfiddle was use to code the project.

Challenges we ran into

As all of us were first time hackers, we knew little about collaborating on a time constrained project so it was challenging to communicate and settle on an idea at first.

JavaScript, CSS, and HTML were languages that we weren't totally familiar with so much of our time was spent googling and researching.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It's great that we were able to finish what we set out to do in at least the very basics of how we wanted the project to function.

Although we were able to publish and submit this into the hackathon, it was fun and stressful in the process. We were also all strangers to each other so it's nice to meet new people.

What we learned

We learned so much about teamwork and the coding languages that we utilized.

Google is truly a programmers best friend and its never bad to ask for help. Our mentor saved us quite a bit of time (although we didn't finish on time in the end haha).

There is a fee to become a chrome developer which is why we didn't publish on the Google Chrome store.

What's next for PomoDoro Cat Timer :)

Maybe, if all of us are free, we can implement a 5 minute timer to count the break time. Another idea we had in mind was a link bar where the user can input their needed resource links for easy access.
