Inspiration
PocketPinch was established to offer its users a means of saving money without feeling guilty about their choices. We were inspired by other applications like Fetch and Mint to see how they promote financial literacy. Many people, including ourselves, could all work on budgeting and creating a financial plan, so we hope PocketPinch can help with these issues.
What it does
The aim was to provide personalized money-saving tips and tricks to help users achieve their financial goals and implement effective saving strategies. Financial literacy is often a sensitive topic for families, and the stigma surrounding it can perpetuate poverty. With PocketPinch, we aim to break this barrier and promote financial literacy as a normal topic of conversation. Our hope is that users will see that saving money is nothing to be ashamed of and that they can adopt healthy money-saving habits to improve their financial well-being.
How we built it
We built PocketPinch in VS code using languages like HTML, CSS, and Python. We also used frameworks such as Flask and Bootstrap.
Challenges we ran into
There were many challenges we faced when designing PocketPinch. We first struggled with coming up with an idea that we could execute under the circumstances we were given. Then we faced challenges with getting everyone set up to work on our project. Lastly, we ran into minor issues within our code like getting images on to the website, but once we got into the groove everything went smoothly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how much we were able to accomplish in such a short period of time. We all wanted to challenge ourselves at PearlHacks, and we successfully did so by using new programs and frameworks that we had never worked with before. In the end everything came together and we are proud of the overall design and set up of PocketPinch.
What we learned
Many of us worked with technologies and applications that we had never used before like Flask and Bootstrap. Since we had never worked with these technologies before we had to learn how to implement them into our code. We also learned more on collaboration and teamwork which we can use in every aspect of our lives.
What's next for PocketPinch
Our current product design does a good job of providing users with the general sense of the type of spender they are and how to save money. In the future, we'd like to increase our number of money habit personalities. Increasing the personality count would allow us to better service a wide range of people.
