Inspiration
It's never too early to learn how to save!
What it does
PocketPiggy is an Android app that teaches kids financial responsibility in a fun, easy to understand way! By allowing parents to determine their child's allowance based upon completion of chores, even young children begin to understand the value of money. Kids also learn how to budget their income by splitting their allowance between goals that they are saving towards. Once chores have been done for the week, a predetermined amount is "transfered" into the child's account. Don't worry parents, there's no banking info here! This balance is actually an IOU that your child can ask you to redeem. Try it out today and start saving smart!
How we built it
We used Figma to design the UX and Android Studio (Java) to develop the mobile applicatoin.
Challenges we ran into
For 3/4 of our team, this was our first ever hackathon. We had pretty limited experience using Android Studio (and GitHub for some of us), and had to learn the basics along the way. Since none of our team members were in the same place, we also had some communication issues. For example, three of our team members used slightly different layouts while developing the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finishing our first Hackathon project! We planned on only conceptualizing an app, but we are proud to say that we almost have a completed product.
What we learned
What's next for PocketPiggy
Adding Firebase authentication, income history, visualizations to show savings/track progess and much more!
