Inspiration
We were inspired by the ease of the Dining Check in the UGA app. It helps us decide which dining hall to go to, and which to avoid based on the capacity. We found ourselves using this feature often and began to wonder if this could be implemented for other restaurants.
What it does
PocketHost would help narrow down restaurants options for guests by showing them the capacity and available tables for nearby restaurants. If the user is a guest, it allows them to create an account, find a restaurant, watch for available seating, and favorite their frequently visited eateries. If the user is a business, it allows them to create an account, link potential franchise locations, update and save information, and link their tabling systems.
How we built it
We built it by creating rudimentary code and using Figma to demonstrate our vision. Our demonstration shows our conceptualization of this service and how we imagined the app to look and act.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges due to our basic understanding of code and applications. Additionally, none of us had ever used Figma or any other service introduced at this Hackathon. In the end, due to our inexperience, we were unable to demonstrate our ideas accurately through our code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Regardless, the four of us have learned a great deal about Figma which was entirely new to us. Additionally, we were able to effectively communicate ideas and come up with a solid theoretical product. We worked together efficiently, and though we do not have a working product, we ended up with an experience that we can be proud of.
What we learned
We learned a great deal about teamwork, efficiency, and critical thinking as well as how to use different services. Some of the most important things we learned aren't tangible and will aid in our future growth and progress.
What's next for PocketHost
We plan to continue working on this application and developing our understanding of coding structures to reflect our intentions with PocketHost.
