Inspiration
When we heard the choices for the themes: either an environment-oriented project or a game to follow the day-to-day life of the player, we decided to mix the two up! Since environment is a subject we hold close to ou hearts, we decided to create a game that would promote environmental protection. Pollution and carbon emissions are the most concerning subject in our society today. Hence, we were inspired by a carbon footprint calculator one of our teachers presented to us at school We wanted to do an interactve game similar to a mini quiz.
What it does
We follow the day of the player during its day to day action where each action taken by the player is calculated so that we can present its total carbon footprint after they finish their game. It thus brings awareness into how much carbon footprint the player emits on a daily basis.
How we built it
We used VisualStudio 2022 and wrote our code in C# and display the results on the terminal.
Challenges we ran into
We couldn't print the game so we spent all night trying to figure out how to debug. Since each teammate has a different level and experience in coding, we weren't sure what language to code our game in. We debated between Python or C#, but we decided to go with the latter based on our competencies and skills. At the end, we managed to print the game in the C# language and managed to debug.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to complete our project in the time limit given. Furthermore, we had to use communication and organizational skills to share ideas, code and progress.
What we learned
We learned about carbon emission factors and how to calculate it. We learned how to code it and gain more skills in C#.
What's next for Planet munchers
Since two our members have beginner notions in python, we want to continue learning how to code in C#. Our third teammate, a student learning C# at school will continue to develop their skills in programming.
