Inspiration
Given the extended amount of time many of us find ourselves stuck at home, we wanted to create an application to keep people entertained while using AR technology
What it does
pictonARy allows users to guess what object is on their screen with their friends for points. We also allow users to draw their own images prior to the game, which then would be uploaded to echoAR and then become a possible item they would have to guess.
How we built it
We built it using Unity for both the UI and drawing portion (AR Foundation Manager), and EchoAR for calling/deleting objects in our app and uploading screenshots to the console using their Upload API
Challenges we ran into
We had a hard time working together on Unity + GitHub Neither of us has ever made a game/app in Unity prior to this event We couldn't run the same application on iOS and Android Learning the echoAR API was a challenge due to hardly any resources outside of the great workshop
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to learn both EchoAR and Unity in less than 24 hours and made something functional!
What we learned
Jet - I learned a great deal about echoAR and I find it super cool. I got to learn a lot about calling APIs in Postman and trying to debug what was going on. Paulo - I learned a lot about Unity and creating interactive buttons with it, I also learned how to render objects from echoAR to Unity using the SDK.
What's next for pictonARy
We plan to flesh out our party system and figure out why the app did not want to work on Android and iOS.
