PictoGym - Team #7

A new social media allowing you to find and make friends with local gymgoers. Allows you to log your exercises, take photos and save memories with your new and old gym buddies.

Inspiration

We were inspired to make this project because we all like going to the gym with friends, but don't know when our friends are going. It's hard to coordinate with classes and other meetings, so it's much more convenient if there was a single app where you could see when your friends were going to the gym.

What it does

Our app allows people to post when they are going to the gym or join other workouts. They can post their gym sets and target muscle groups, so it's easier to coordinate leg day. Users can see future gym sessions and previous ones, and take photos while at the gym for memories.

How we built it

We built this app using React Native and additional packages. All code was written in Javascript / JSX and deployed to our phones using expo.

Challenges we ran into

Javascript, Git and React Native were new tools that most of our team had no experience with, so we had to learn to use the tools along the way. A significant challenge was getting the camera to work, coordinating page routing and synchronizing our codebases. However, we were able to overcome all of these challenges to produce a fully-working product!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're extremely proud of our personal development along the course of this project, and our final project, as our app is actually usable and updates in real-time. We're also proud that our app is applicable to our lives and we can actually go use it in our daily lives.

What we learned

Aside from the new languages and frameworks we learned, we also learned to collaborate on a coding project as a team. By delegating and coordinating between each other, we were able to turn our app idea into a success.

What's next for PictoGym

In the future, we hope to build out more features, especially to other habits that would promote community wellness and increased social interactions about personal health. We hope to launch this to the App Store and actually get users onto our platform!
