Inspiration
We wanted to provide a system that would allow patients to keep track of all the people that are entering and exiting the room. We understand that some people feel un comfortable not knowing who is in the room. So we wanted to tackle that problem with our project !
What it does
Like mentioned before we are able to attach a face to people who are walking in and out of rooms. We solved this while being able to have a reliable, low-cost, easy to implement hardware. We have a raspberry pi which can send employee information to a database either by NFC tag or by facial recognition. The database then communicates with our front end which thens displays all the useful information that the user would like to see.
How we built it
For the backend we are using a raspberry pi connected with a NFC reader and a pi Camara. The raspberry pi communicates with database server powered by firebase. The front end of our website is powered by React.
Challenges we ran into
Our team never worked with hardware so getting the wiring to work was a lot of trouble. We also had to deal with libraries that were super outdated and did not know how to use.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Connecting a backend with the front end. Getting the backend was the easiest part but getting it to connect with the front end was the hardest part.
What we learned
We learned how to build a hardware project and being able to create something that can scale really good.
What's next for Pi-dentification
Next is for us to be able to create a mobile native app for the patients family to be able to track who is in and out of the room.
