Inspiration

Philately, the art and passion of stamp collecting, connects enthusiasts with history, culture, and rare artifacts from around the world. However, many collectors face challenges in finding authentic stamps and trustworthy marketplaces. The lack of a dedicated, user-friendly platform inspired us to build Philatelix, a secure e-commerce app that bridges the gap between stamp collectors, sellers, and historians.

What it does

Philatelix is a comprehensive mobile application that allows users to:

  • Browse and search an extensive collection of stamps by country, year, or rarity.
  • Buy and sell stamps securely with a simple user interface.
  • Save favorite stamps to a wishlist for future reference.
  • Receive notifications about auctions, sales, and new arrivals.
  • Track orders and view transaction history.

How we built it

  • Frontend: Developed using Flutter, ensuring a smooth and responsive cross-platform user interface for both Android and iOS.
  • Backend: Leveraged Firebase for real-time database management and user authentication.
  • Payment Gateway: Integrated Stripe/Razorpay for secure transactions.
  • UI/UX Design: Designed interactive and intuitive screens using tools like Figma to ensure a seamless user experience.
  • State Management: Used Provider/Bloc for efficient state management across screens.

Challenges we ran into

  • Implementing Secure Payments: Integrating a reliable payment gateway with proper security measures required extensive research and testing.
  • Efficient Search and Filter Functionality: Building a scalable search algorithm to handle dynamic queries with speed and accuracy was complex.
  • Maintaining Cross-Platform Consistency: Ensuring a uniform look and feel across Android and iOS devices posed some design challenges.
