Inspiration

There are many problems in the world which are not addressed because they are either ignored or aren't given much priority because of no or very less instant effects to us. Problems towards environment is similar. We might see low impact to our daily lives but, we would have no greenery left if we do not act up now. We hear about the forest fire in the Amazon, and many illegal logging problems in different remote parts of many countries but still we aren't able to do anything for it. This was the source of our motivation to address these crucial problems by bringing ICT to solve this issue. Also, there are not many effective sources of data available for anyone to research, develop or study about the forests of many countries. They are either out-dated or not available, so this is also a step towards open-source data presentation.

What it does

Our idea will be delivering an IoT device integrated with necessary sensors and modules which would work as a transmitter sending audio data in the cloud for identifying the sounds in the surroundings using ML model, and will also provide feature for visual confirmation. This device will be placed in the forest areas and will be communicating with the receivers in the closest forest ranger's office back and forth.

How we built it

We developed the prototype by training a ML model with sounds produced during illegal logging and forest fire. Since we had less time and low technical abilities, we used google teachable machine to train our model. Also, the data set was manually gathered by us, which is why the accuracy currently is a low level with other sounds but pretty accurate with the sounds used to train the model. We then displayed the results in the front-end dashboard and showed some features which would be available in the future

Challenges we ran into

Our team was our greatest strength and greatest weakness. We made a team this morning only and did the work. But since both of use were beginners with hackathons and development, it took us extra time for prototyping.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the team work and prototype we achieved in such a short time of only a few hours. We are glad to get this motivation to learn further and grow more

What we learned

We learned great team work and also learned many new technical things. Also learned how to tackle great technical difficulties.

What's next for Phaunus

We would move on to making a more effective prototype, approach our stakeholders and test the product in the real market.
