Inspiration
We were inspired by our friend who is running a handmade clothing line right now. Like most small business owners, she faces marketing challenges because customers cannot easily find her products. We believe it's especially important to support small, local businesses during the pandemic.
What it does
What we have built is primarily a customer review app that recommends small businesses to their audiences. Upon opening the app, the customer creates a profile with their interests and can then browse small businesses with a search function. The app also allows customers to attach photos to their reviews.
How we built it
We used Figma, Google Firebase, and Android Studio.
Challenges we ran into
Initially we wanted to use NCR's APIs (Silver and BSP) to link existing companies to our app as well as configure direct payment/orders into the app, but with the time constraint and lack of API experience we opted to use Firebase to quickly create company data instead and table the online ordering. If we had more time, we definitely would have taken advantage of the sponsor resources more!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building an functioning app on minimal sleep, learning how to use Figma and Firebase for the first time.
What we learned
It's important to take breaks. Reach out to mentors because they save you precious time and help you so much!
What's next for Petique
We had to limit our ideas down to complete the hackathon on time. For next steps, we would like to build an online ordering system, add the ability to make "friends" on the app, integrate a location system, and create company collections.
