Pet Date App

6.8 million companion animals enter shelters every year in the U.S. alone. However, only 4 million pets are adopted a year. Help increase the adoption rate by using our app to bring home a new friend!

Inspiration

We wanted to help animals find a loving home.

What it does

Gets your location and shows adoptable animals near you! Or create an account and upload a photo and description of your pet to find a pet play date.

How we built it

We built this app using Java Spring Boot along with a React frontend and a Postgres database.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with how to get started, as well as with how to get the swiping feature to work. We also found figuring out the photo upload to be a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the design of the website and the cool features it has, such as the dark mode and swiping.

What we learned

We learned how to use an API, JWT authentication, and Spring Boot. We also learned how to make React components and connect the frontend and backend.

What's next for Pet Date App

We hope to add features to allow you to save animals that you swipe right on and make updates to our pet play date matching.
