Inspiration
We are inspired by the fact that pests are a common threat to reconstruction efforts after a natural disaster, when pest populations increase. Additionally, pests can be natural disasters themselves: locusts, for example, can suddenly swarm and destroy crops.
What it does
We create functionality where users can enter their zip code and find information about pest threats in their region.
How we built it
We use the React JS framework. We used react-simple maps for our map functionality. We used the granite model on Watsonx studio to build a custom RAG for the zipcode-map feature. Additionally, we started working on another model for our learn feature using granite chat.
Challenges we ran into
We were low on time, and we wanted to implement and image detection feature using llama-visual-instruct, so we didn't get the time. Same thing for the granite chat, which we couldn't connect to the backend in time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We did complete the RAG, Chroma DB, integration with our map.
What we learned
We learned to use react for the first time and we liked learning the watsonx studio!
What's next for PestPro
A completion of the image/capture tasks and the chat.
