Inspiration
Two friends and I held our own hackathon for a weekend (without all the Soylent!) with the goal of learning how to build our own, personal websites. We learned HTML, CSS and a little bit of JavaScript all by ourselves over that weekend. It was a great experience and I can now proudly say that a month later, I have the website fully built and ready to launch.
What it does
It is a website displaying my accomplishments, skills, interests, and passions. This site is meant to show employers that I am truly passionate about Computer Science and that I have a drive that not many other people possess.
How I built it
My website was built using Sublime Text 3 on my laptop. The site was later launched using HostGator for the web hosting and selecting the domain name.
Challenges I ran into
I had a big problem for a while where I was trying to figure out the best way to put my navbar on every HTML page without having to copy and paste huge chunks of code. I solved this problem by doing just that, which ended up working out just fine. In the future, I may look into fixing this minor complication.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud that I taught myself basically everything needed to build this website! This was really the first big project I've ever worked on, and it was a great experience and a lot of fun to see through completion.
What I learned
I learned all the necessary skills to build this website, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I also learned the basics of how websites are made and what it is like to professionally work on software.
What's next for Personal Website
After publishing the site, I plan to continue to update and maintain it by adding my future projects and accomplishments. If I have the time, I would also like to improve the site's looks, flow, and overall design.
