Inspiration
We were inspired by a speaker who came to our local library to talk about period poverty. We felt that we should step up and raise awareness about this issue, so we made Period Perfect.
What it does
With pages for chat forums and products, Period Perfect has lots of information for those who are just learning about their period. Our "Products" page gives information about different period products. It also features a multiple-choise quiz about that uses your answers to determine what product is best for you. Our home page features statistics on period poverty and helps others learn more.
How we built it
We used HTML to make the framework of the website. Then, we styled it with CSS and used Javascript to allow users to interact with the quiz.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to make an online forum. Unfortunately, due to lack of time, we were unable to properly save any forum questions or comments to a database. Instead, we only had the base HTML framework.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're most proud of successfully making a quiz. Linking Javascript to the HTML was very difficult, and we're very proud we pulled it out.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how CSS, Javascript and HTML work together. Before, we had used them, but we've never integrated them together. We also learned to set out a clearer schedule for what we would work on as we realized very late that we didn't have enough time. This lead us to learn how to prioritize tasks. For example, we decided that the most important part would be the HTML, then the JS, and finally, the CSS.
What's next for Period Perfect
Next, we would like to have a working chat forum that saves comments and discussions using SQLite to allow for a safe space for people to ask questions about their periods.
