Inspiration and motivation
Half the world's population does not have access to the internet! How could we connect people in vulnerable situations with technological and voluntary services? How can these people be empowered with the ease of technology, when there are so many things that keep them away?
Accessibility and a lack of digital skills remain some of the main barriers to the adoption and effective use of the internet, especially in the least developed countries in the world;
In 40 of the 84 countries for which data are available, less than half of the population has basic computer skills, such as copying a file or sending an email with an attachment;
While more data is needed, the initial findings indicate a strong and pressing need for governments to focus on measures to develop digital skills, particularly in developing countries.
