Pear Up!

Inspiration

The need for us, as students, to find a fellow peer to learn a skill from if we don't know anyone who can help us! Plus, sharing and teaching what we know is valued by all of us - since we love to help others in need :)

What it does

In short, our app "Pears" you up with other so that you can get tutoring services by exchanging your skills with people. It is a webapp that allows a user to signup to collaborate with a fellow user in order to share their skills with each other, one-on-one. Select what skills you know and what skills you want to learn on your profile, then 'Get Peared!' with a fellow user who can teach you the skill you want to learn. During the session, you can communicate via chatbox or enable your camera if what you're teaching cannot be shown over text. Need collaborators on a project you're developing with skills you lack? PearUp will help you find those perfect pears to work with you, and learn as you go!

How we built it

We used React to make the website. In order to save time for the design, we used two different frameworks called ChakraUI and antd.

Challenges we ran into

We had lots of trouble customizing the frameworks to match the style we wanted and had to get lots of help from the mentors.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Everything! We managed to build an incredible demo in less than 12 hours with react. Two of our team members didn't even have any coding knowledge and had to learn it during the hackathon. We are incredibly proud of our project and each other.

What we learned

All of us learned many different skills: coding related or not. We all learned more about react and front-end development as well as team work and time management.
