Inspiration
I very strongly believe that pets brighten up our lives. I wasn't like that, I always wanted a cat since I was young but I never realized just how much I would end up loving my cats. A huge inspiration for this idea was my little sister. I've seen first-hand how happy she gets whenever she gets to spend time with the cats!
What it does
Our app lets users browse animals and pets around their area to book therapy sessions with the animals. Users can also post their own animals up for therapy sessions for others to view and book. I named the app Pawsiotherapy which is like a mix between psychotherapy and paws. People who get to spend more time with animals are usually happier than those who don't. I want more of us to realize that.
How we built it
I spent about 3 hours planning the architecture and design of the app. Then I used the full-stack framework Next.js for it. I also used prisma and mongodb for the database integration, tailwind for styling, oauth and next-auth for authentication and security, and many more tools and libraries.
Challenges we ran into
I had a lot of trouble with retrieving certain things from the database, I was very disappointed when something really simple just would not work for some reason. Hence, the app could not be completed. But I think I've got some things that are still very presentable!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I've learned so much through this project! Less than a year ago, I could not even code properly in HTML and CSS. I'm truly proud of how far I've come. But the more I grow in this industry, the clearer it gets just how much better than me people out there still are. It's absolutely incredible, and I'll do whatever it takes to surpass them someday! :))
What we learned
I've gotten a lot more familiarized with working with MongoDB and Next.js. I usually just watched and do tutorials so I was doubting myself quite a bit before starting this project. I've proved to myself once again that I'm so lucky to be in a field that I love!
What's next for Pawsiotherapy
It's been less than 24 hours since I came up with the whole idea itself. But ideas don't mean much at all without the implementation portion of it. I wanna know from others what THEY think is next for Pawsiotherapy and we'll go from there!
