Inspiration
Have you ever woken up and gotten ready for the day only to stare at your wardrobe with nothing in mind? Especially with the ever-changing Virginia weather, deciding on an outfit can be tough. We have all had this problem before so we made a program to fix that!
What it does and how we built it
Our project recommends what clothes to wear depending on the weather forecast given a user's area zip code. We call Tomorrow.io's weather forecast API with the user's location for the next eight hours. We take the values of temperature, humidity, rain accumulation, snow accumulation, UV index, wind gust, and wind speed and put them into our algorithm to determine what to recommend. We have a GUI that takes user inputs and has a sprite that can model what clothes we recommend. This includes short-sleeved t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, short pants, long pants, sunglasses, umbrellas, hats, and jackets.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we ran into was using a language that the whole group was familiar with. We decided to use Python. This was the first-ever hackathon that everyone in our group attended, so it was definitely a learning experience.
What's next for our project
There are a lot of improvements and additions that can be made to our project. Starting with the GUI, we should improve the interface, graphics, sprites, and outputs. This includes giving an option to the user to include their own wardrobe so the clothes we recommend can be more personalized. We should also improve our algorithm to take more weather values and give more selections.
