Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was how people tend to waste excess food they have, rather than having it go to someone who might need it more.
What it does
Our website allows people to donate food digitally, which then gets sent to Food Banks, who can distribute it to whoever needs it. Volunteer drivers pick up the donated food at the donors house and deliver it to the food banks, who can request food if they lack something in particular.
How we built it
We used Canva for the overall design of the website, then did two versions: one in Racket built from scratch, and one using Python Flask and MySQL with help from Claude AI.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into were syncing the computers and the coding in general was frustrating
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the overall look of our website and that we got something finished in 2 days.
What we learned
We definitely learned a lot about coding and we practiced a lot of problem solving.
What's next for Pass the Plate
We will try to complete and finalize the website, and if possible, we hope to publish it
