Inspiration

Pasipo is a lighthearted website project that entwines my goals in uplifting Filipino representation around the globe, code for entertainment, and engaging in more learning opportunities. Inspired by my personal life, music has always played an integral part in my Filipino culture and I often engage with my community(i.e. parties, karaoke, festivals, etc.). The past two years have separated many, making it difficult to hear the abundance of harmony and gatherings during the pandemic. I dedicate this project to the soft power of musicians, who help us get through our day-to-day while inspiring us to work hard on what makes us passionate.

Project Idea

By listening on Pasipo, users can find more Filipino voices in the music industry and potentially find these artists in their next Spotify Wrapped.

Why is it Pasipo: homepage?

I coded this homepage in less than 3 hours for Day 3 of MLH Local Hack Day. Instead of creating different projects for the daily challenges, I've decided to complete as many challenges as possible that work within the scope of this project idea.

How we built it

React, Glitch, Tailwind CSS, Vitejs, React-spring animation library, Wouter

Challenges I ran into

Due to a lack of time resources, I can't put in the same amount of effort I usually have for hackathons. This makes it hard to submit or think of project ideas. I wanted to try out Tailwind CSS but was directed to tailwind UI and a hefty paywall. So I reverted to using Saas and SCSS to save the headache.

Accomplishments

This idea was in the back of my head for a while last year. I created a lean UX Canvas during Hackulator, but the project never got coded. I'm happy to have started coding this project.

What I learned

I'm familiar with CSS, Sass, and bootstrap, so it wasn't too difficult of a learning curve. I began exploring different animation and interaction libraries during this time, though.

What's next for Pasipo: homepage

For sure:

  • Building the discover page
  • Implementing the Spotify API
  • Using Airtable to store a list of artist information unless I find out Spotify API can cover this Perhaps:
  • seeing where I can utilize animation and perhaps test out p5.js or three.js
  • finding how to utilize a database best
