Inspiration

One fateful day, we sat before a plate of food, our stomachs rumbling, our minds racing... WHAT WAS THIS?! 🤯 We stared at it, confused, lost, desperate for answers. We did what any modern human would do—whipped out our phones and tried Shazam. BUT SHAZAM FAILED US. 😱 Because this was food, NOT MUSIC 🎵🚫🍔🤷. Our world shattered. Our trust in technology was shaken. We knew then... we had to take matters into our own hands. Thus, papAIa was born. 🌟

What it does

papAIa 📸🍍 is the hero we never knew we needed. Simply snap a pic of the mysterious food before you, and BOOM 💥 our AI scans, analyzes, and determines what it is 🕵️‍♂️. But WAIT—there’s more! Not only does papAIa identify your meal, it goes the extra mile and fetches multiple recipes 🍽️✨ using the Spoonacular API! Users can then pick their favorite recipe, and papAIa provides the full details, including ingredients 🛒, step-by-step instructions 📖, and dietary info 💡🥦! No more food confusion. No more despair. Only delicious discovery. 🍽️🔍

How we built it

💻 Python-powered backend + 🔥 AI model for food recognition + 🍽️ Spoonacular API magic + a sleek, elegant front-end for smooth interaction! 🚀 We locked ourselves in, surrounded by empty energy drink cans and caffeine-fueled madness ☕🔥. Our keyboards clattered with urgency. Our brains pulsed with innovation. We fought bugs like warriors ⚔️, debated design choices like philosophers 🤔, and tested relentlessly until papAIa was born. 🪄💫

Challenges we ran into

😵‍💫 AI model confusion (some foods look REALLY similar! Who knew tofu and cheesecake could be doppelgängers?!) 🛠️ API struggles (sometimes it just DIDN’T want to cooperate 😤 We begged. We pleaded. We debugged.) ⏳ Time crunch (hackathon = three hours of sleep MAX 😵‍💫☕) 🌪️ Chaos of merging code at 3 AM (why did EVERYTHING break?!)

But did we give up? NEVER. 💪 We pushed through the madness, our will stronger than overcooked spaghetti. 🍝 We found creative workarounds, optimized our AI, and emerged victorious! 🎯

What we learned

🧠 AI models are fascinating, frustrating, and finicky all at once 🎭 🔗 APIs are incredibly powerful, but require patience, skill, and the ability to not throw your laptop in frustration 🛠️ ⏳ Time management in a hackathon is EVERYTHING ⏰ (Did we plan well? No. Did we survive? Yes.) 💡 Teamwork is the secret ingredient to making something amazing! 🧑‍🤝‍🧑💡
