As our team was brainstorming ideas for what to create, an alert on our phones popped out, providing an update on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Turkey and Syria. We came to the realization that our team, consisting of a multitude of ethnicities and backgrounds, wanted to create a platform that educates and empowers users around the world about current global issues. Starting as just a brainstorm, our team worked hard over the past two days to connect those who need aid and the resources to do so to users worldwide. Our mission is centered around three main goals: connection, impartiality, and awareness. Massive change can only come through worldwide collective action and connection. Humanitarian response is for everyone, regardless of political belief and location, impartiality. Lastly, notifying users about the latest updates surrounding our global community.

In our app, we provide users with a multitude of selections to aid relevant causes. From as simple as educating yourself about a current issue to donating to a particular cause, you are able to aid in spreading awareness and providing donations to those affected. Through our three pillars, we hope to mobilize our global community through awareness and compassion.

We were able to bring our idea to fruition through a Software Development Kit (SDK), Flutterflow. Through Flutterflow, we were able to build our app in pages. Each page displays relevant information about various global issues, including news articles, fundraisers, locations, etc.

Our process, however, did involve many challenges that needed to be overcome. For instance, we came into HackBeanPot with little to no experience. As a team that only consisted of the first-year experience, our main challenge was getting comfortable with a completely new software development kit, programming languages, and UI/UX elements. These challenges, nonetheless, made us become better programmers. While the app is still in its early development stages, we have become appreciative of the small things that made our app function. From simply the pinning icon that enables users to pin fundraisers or causes they are passionate about to importing data about news articles using APIs, we have come to realize that even small tools that many users often overlook are the most rewarding to software developers.

We believe that Outreach has a lot of potential and will only grow and improve from now on. We plan to include more features in the near future, such as accepting payments using Apple Pay directly through the app and having a more detailed version of the map, which highlights all the different local hotspots in each country (for example, evacuation zones in Ukraine). We also have long-term goals for the project: we want to allow big contributors to be able to donate to different causes with ease using Outreach, as well as integrate APIs from other projects in our app (for example, gofundme and Facebook)
