What Inspired Me
In recent years, environmental protection has become one of the most important topics of our time. Issues like climate change, waste reduction, and renewable energy are gaining widespread attention. As technology advances, our living standards improve, but this progress often comes at a cost—more waste, more pollution, and more environmental damage. For example, we’re seeing an increase in plastic waste and ozone emissions.
I was inspired to create EcoLife to raise awareness about the environmental challenges we face today, while leveraging technology to offer practical solutions. My goal was to use technology to help people make eco-friendly choices and to highlight the urgent need for environmental responsibility.
What I Learned
Working on EcoLife taught me a lot about AI, especially around designing workflows and gathering the right data sources. I came into this project with limited AI knowledge, so I had to dive deep into Voiceflow’s documentation, watch countless tutorials, and explore YouTube videos to understand how I could integrate AI into my application effectively.
I learned how to train an AI using valuable data, how to design logical workflows that trigger based on user actions, and how to create a natural conversation with AI. It was a steep learning curve, but ultimately, I gained the skills needed to apply AI in a meaningful way.
How I Built My Project
The idea for EcoLife came from brainstorming various ways to help users manage their eco-friendly activities while considering their budget. I decided to use sliders to allow users to prioritize different categories, combined with a chat window that would make it easier for users to interact with the AI. This approach emphasizes how eco-friendly actions can be adapted to different budget levels, making sustainability accessible to all.
I created a user-friendly interface that includes categories and sliders, enabling users to easily adjust their preferences. I then gathered data from various sources and trained the Voiceflow AI to provide personalized recommendations based on the user's budget. Testing the AI and refining its logic was a rewarding process, as I saw the assistant improve over time, becoming more natural in its responses and delivering specific suggestions that fit the user’s budget.
Building this project has been fulfilling because it allowed me to combine my passion for environmental protection with my newfound AI skills. It feels great to contribute to raising awareness about sustainability while also leveraging technology in an innovative way.
Challenges I Faced
One of the biggest challenges I encountered was learning to design AI workflows in Voiceflow. As a beginner in AI, I found it difficult to get the AI to behave as expected. Initially, the AI responses felt more like feedback rather than a natural conversation, and it often misnumbered steps, starting at 4 or 5 instead of 1.
To overcome these issues, I watched a lot of YouTube videos and read through many different documentation sources to understand how to craft better prompts and workflows. After trial and error, I was able to resolve the problem, and the AI began providing more accurate and natural responses, including specific budget-based suggestions.
This experience was a significant milestone for me as an AI beginner, and I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come. I now feel inspired to continue learning about AI and to apply this knowledge to future projects that benefit my community and raise awareness about important issues like environmental sustainability.
