Bridging Community & Innovation: The Story Behind the AR Project

The genesis of our AR community project traces back to the experiences of Faye, a student at the Parsons School of Design in New York. His journey in a high-rise building with limited windows and overwhelming white interiors sparked a movement among his peers.

Our vision is to transform each community members into active participants in the community’s urban design process. We aim to leverage AR technology to preview the future of their desired neighborhoods with a efficient and low-cost way, allowing for a collaborative and inclusive approach to community development. This initiative not only reveal individual voices but also bridges the gap between residents and city planners to make the community proposal could come true, fostering a cohesive effort towards impactful and meaningful infrastructural enhancements.

Inspiration

Faye's oppressive studio environment at Parsons served as a powerful motivator. He and his classmates craved a change, longing for a more engaging and open space.

Realization: Faye realized that the discomfort he felt was a sentiment shared by many, yet it remained unspoken. Recognizing the power of a collective voice, he envisioned a platform for change.

Action

It began with a small act of defiance - a corner dedicated to plants. This initiative, started by Faye and others, quickly grew into a symbol of collective discontent and desire for change.

Building the Solution: Leveraging augmented reality technology, our team, inspired by Faye's insights, developed an interactive tool. This platform allows individuals to highlight and share issues in their surroundings, turning personal grievances into a community agenda.

Challenges: The journey was not without obstacles. Translating digital engagement into tangible changes posed significant challenges. The team focused on demonstrating the potential of each AR-tagged issue to become a stepping stone towards real improvement.

Impact: Our AR project has evolved beyond a simple app; it's a testament to the power of shared experiences and collective action. Through Faye's story and our team's efforts, each AR tag now represents a step towards a more inclusive and responsive community environment.
